Whitney’s last album, I Look To You, was pretty much the only album I listened to (that wasn’t a kid’s album) during most of the writing and recording of Thunder Thighs. My friends Alex and Ami died. I wrote Walk Like Thunder. Three months later I Look To You was released. And it was EXACTLY what I needed. I still listen to it regularly. While no one I knew liked it I found it to be an extremely powerful collection of songs. It’s a recovery album. It’s a phoenix rising from the flame album. It saved me in some ways and changed me in others. There are a million more things I could say about my love for her, but my heart is all busted up.

“I Didn’t Know My Own Strength” is the one. This song….holy fuck. My aching heart.

I am a sad mama.
